Dave Chappelle has the media spinning in circles after his recent Netflix special, ‘The Closer,’ had caused chaos among people who’ve slammed the comedian as transphobic.
This all happened after jokes from his special got people upset and people spoke out against him, but Chappelle was standing his ground in the face of cancel culture. He said he’s fine with talking to any of the trans employees from Netflix about it, but he also seems very unlikely to apologize for any of his jokes, no matter what.
Chappelle, whose special sparked a small walkout of Netflix employees, also said it’s NOT true that he was invited to speak to them – because he would have gone, he claimed.
Specifically, Chappelle said: “It’s been said in the press that I was invited to speak to the transgender employees of Netflix and I refused. That is not true — if they had invited me I would have accepted it, although I am confused about what we would be speaking about. I said what I said, and boy, I heard what you said. My God, how could I not? You said you want a safe working environment at Netflix. It seems like I’m the only one who can’t go to the office.”
The hilarious comedian suggested that a lot of the LGBTQ community has his back, but the media keeps painting it as them vs him so they can increase the rage and get more ratings, clicks, money, whatever.
It seems like the corporate interest is at play because the mainstream media knows a controversy keeps the ratings running high at times, especially when it comes to a guy like Dave Chappelle.
He further stated, “I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames it that it’s me versus that community, that’s not what it is. Do not blame the LGBTQ community for any of this. It’s about corporate interests, and what I can say, and what I cannot say… For the record, and I need you to know this, everyone I know from that community has been loving and supportive, so I don’t know what this nonsense is about.”
