Herschel Walker, a Georgia GOP Senate candidate, swung back at former President Barack Obama’s accusation that he is “a celebrity that wants to be a politician.” Walker argued that the former president doesn’t have sway with voters in the Peach State and “got with the wrong horse” by backing Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.
The comments by Walker come in the wake of the former president slamming the controversial candidate during a speech. Obama highlighted the GOP candidate’s multiple controversies, as he told the crowd that the former football star is “someone who carries around a phony badge and says he is in law enforcement like a kid playing cops and robbers” and alleging he has “issues of character.”
The former president was criticized by Walker, who noted that Obama did not win the state in 2008 or 2016, and referred to himself as “a warrior for God,” dismissing that he is a celebrity.
Here is what Walker said in a statement: “President Obama was here last night. He said I’m a celebrity. He got that one wrong, didn’t he? I’m not a celebrity. I’m a warrior for God. He got something else wrong, too. Remember two years ago he told us to vote for Joe Biden, didn’t he? He got that one wrong, did he not? He’s lost twice to Georgia already, hasn’t he, so I think he probably needs to sit this one out,” reported Washington Examiner.
“I’m sorry to tell former President Obama, I’m sorry, I’m gonna pray for him. I’m gonna pray for him because he needs some help. He needs some help because he got with the wrong horse. Senator Warnock is the wrong horse. You know he can’t do the job, and it’s time for him to leave. So don’t let the door hit your butt as you walk out of there,” Walker added.
Walker and Warnock are in a neck-and-neck battle, as polls indicate, which has become increasingly heated as Election Day nears.
Walker was a target of the Warnock camp, as they looked to hit him over multiple stories that have emerged stating that the former football player pushed women to have abortions, threatened his ex-wife with a gun, had multiple children he previously did not acknowledge, and fabricated parts of his professional record.
The abortion claims were denied by Walker, while he stood by his claim that he has been involved with law enforcement, and noting he has worked to draw awareness to mental health issues, he asserted that he has a good relationship with his ex-wife.
On the other side, the Walker campaign has looked to highlight accusations from Warnock’s wife that he ran over her foot with a car, but these accusations were also denied by Warnock.
