Just when you think the push for electric vehicles couldn’t get any more embarrassing, sure enough – it does. The video below shows the one thing you don’t want to happen when you’re trying to show off your new electric lawnmower, but this EV lawnmower caught on fire during a trade show and I can’t stop laughing at the irony of this all. It’s like no matter how hard they’re pushing for electric things, the electric things just keep having problems and show us that it’s just not ready for the big time yet. They’re not ready, it’s obvious. Either way, as the saying goes… “you really can’t make this sh*t up.”
This has to be a complete public relations nightmare too. Trending Views reported on this, saying something about a post on Facebook that made a statement about the EV lawnmower catching fire: “Today, in the Equip Exposition Outdoor Demo Yard, a mower caught on fire. There were no injuries. The unit has been removed and the Demo Yard will re-open in the morning, October 20, at 9 a.m. as scheduled.”
This was also reported on The American Tribune who added commentary and context to the story, informing people of the EV lawnmower fire in an article about the incident at the trade show. Now keep in mind that I am no EV expert and of course there needs to be an explanation of why the lawnmower caught fire. That explanation is here, from The American Tribune, who provided context from Snopes:
The context for the video, as provided by Snopes, is that: “The electric mower that appeared in videos was a “single pre-production prototype unit,” according to a company statement. The Lawn & Landscape blog reported that the prototype was part of DeWalt’s battery-powered Ascent Series, which wasn’t expected to be made available to the public until fall 2023.
DeWalt, replying to both Snopes and the Lawn & Landscape blog when asked about the inferno incident with the electric mower, said: “We are grateful that no one was injured. We are working quickly to determine the cause of the issue with this single pre-production prototype unit and will provide further information when available.”
Hey, whatever they say must be true. Do I care? No, not one bit. I just think the video of the electric lawnmower on fire at a trade show was funny and ironic. I got a good laugh out of it, so I’m just sharing it with all of you. Here’s the video of the electric lawnmower on fire for you to enjoy!
