Van Morrison recently announced he is releasing another anti-lockdown song. This one will be a collaboration with Eric Clapton called “Stand and Deliver” and is set to release on December 4th in support of Morrison’s campaign “Save Live Music.”
Written by Morrison and performed by Eric Clapton, “Stand and Deliver” will be the newest of four tunes he’s written in protest of worldwide Covid-19 lockdowns.
In the first three singles “Born to Be Free,” “As I Walked Out” and “No More Lockdown” Morrison accused the U.K. government of “taking our freedom.”
According to Variety, proceeds from “Stand and Deliver” will go to Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, which supports musicians who have suffered financial difficulties during the global pandemic.
In a recent variety interview Clapton said “There are many of us who support Van and his endeavors to save live music; he is an inspiration….We must stand up and be counted because we need to find a way out of this mess. The alternative is not worth thinking about. Live music might never recover.”
“Eric’s recording is fantastic and will clearly resonate with many who share our frustrations,” Morrison recently stated via his campaign Save Live Music.
As stated on Billboard, “I’m not telling people what to do or think, the government is doing a great job of that already,” the 75-year-old singer said in a statement announcing the protest anthems. “It’s about freedom of choice, I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.”
