Jen Psaki Takes Over Prime Time — But Viewers Vanish After Sudden Drop in Ratings

(Crankers.com) Jen Psaki, former White House press secretary under President Joe Biden, has launched a new MSNBC prime-time show titled The Briefing with Jen Psaki. The program airs Tuesday through Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, occupying the slot previously held by Alex Wagner Tonight. This transition follows Rachel Maddow’s return to a once-a-week schedule on Mondays .

The Briefing evolved from Psaki’s earlier program, Inside with Jen Psaki, which debuted in March 2023 as a Sunday show. Due to its success, it expanded to Mondays and eventually transitioned into the current prime-time format in May 2025 . The show focuses on providing in-depth analysis of political issues, featuring one-on-one interviews with newsmakers and aiming to offer clarity on complex topics.

Despite a strong debut, The Briefing experienced a decline in viewership during its initial week. The premiere attracted 1.2 million viewers, including 139,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic. However, by the second episode, viewership dropped to 1 million, with only 65,000 in the key demographic, reported NY Post .

Psaki’s move to prime time is part of MSNBC’s broader strategy to adapt its programming lineup, aiming to provide insightful political coverage during the evening hours. Her experience as a former press secretary and political commentator brings a unique perspective to the network’s offerings.
