Playstation says they’re working on competitor to Xbox Game Pass

By FrankDecember 6, 2021 Gaming

According to an exciting new report, Sony is working on a competitive Xbox Game Pass service for the well-known PlayStation.

According to Bloomberg, individuals familiar with Sony’s plans revealed interesting info of a brand new service code titled “Spartacus,” according to Bloomberg. It will allow PlayStation fans to pay a monthly fee to access a library of new and old games. This is the same strategy that Xbox employs for its popular Game Pass subscription service.

According to the project materials, the planned service would be separated into three categories. The first contains all of the benefits of PlayStation Plus, which is required for online gaming and includes a monthly selection of free games. A higher tier, similar to Game Pass, gives you access to the whole game library, while a third tier gives you access to extended demonstrations, game streaming, and a larger selection of PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games.

Launching a new service to add older games to the library is big news, given the demand for backward compatibility among PlayStation fans.

The new service, which will unite Sony’s two subscription services PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now — a cloud service that allows users to stream games directly to their consoles — is set to arrive in spring 2022. According to Bloomberg, the PlayStation Plus name will be kept, but PlayStation Now will be phased away as a brand.

Despite overcoming competitors like Stadia, PlayStation Now has struggled to establish itself as a key PlayStation subscription service. However, in recent months, the firm has taken measures to incorporate important games such as God of War and The Last of Us 2.
