Cain, the dog from Red Dead Redemption 2, passed away in real life

By FrankJune 16, 2023 Gaming

Fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 and animal lovers across the planet will be sad to learn that the dog who portrayed Cain has passed away in real life. Cain wasn’t a huge character in Red Dead Redemption 2, but times like this is when people come together amid loss and be there for each other, especially when it’s a pup that most RD2 gamers enjoyed knowing. The dog’s real name was Einstein Barnes.

A Senior Animator over at Rockstar Games shared a heartwarming message about Einstein Barnes on Instagram. It said the following (and the rest can be read on Instagram):

Einstein was truly one of a kind. From the moment we met, we formed a deep bond, and it was clear that we were destined for countless adventures together.

You possessed an uncanny intelligence, earning you the name Einstein; even if, at times, the name felt like a joke.

You never failed to bring a smile to my face or offer solace during challenging times. Your presence alone was enough to brighten the darkest of days and lift me up in times of need. Whether it was a quiet walk to fort green, suiting up to be a stunt dog or exhilarating treks through uncharted territories, you were always ready for whatever adventure awaited us.

You were more than just a dog; you were a legend. Your intelligence and unwavering loyalty made you stand out above all other pups. You were there to comfort me when I was sad, to celebrate with me in moments of joy, and to lend a listening ear when I needed someone to confide in. I know people say dogs can’t understand but there was something about your eyes that seemed to counter the idea..

GGRecon posted a great photo from Red Dead Redemption 2, showing Cain getting some petting action from another character, hitting people right in the feels for the good boy.
