(Crankers.com) Jimmy Kimmel is returning to the air on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The announcement came from Disney-owned ABC on Monday, ending his brief suspension.
Kimmel was suspended indefinitely at first, but that turned into almost a week.
The suspension began last week following comments Kimmel made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel suggested that MAGA was trying to convince themselves that the shooter was “anything” but one of their own.
The Charlie Kirk shooter turned out to be a far left extremist and that was likely known at the time Kimmel made the comment, but he made it anyway and took heat from the network.
The network stated that the comments were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.” After a period of “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel, the decision was made to bring the show back.
This might come as a shock considering Kimmel’s ratings were bad in his key demographic. However, after someone shot up an ABC station – maybe this is the smarter short term play by the network.
Disney released a statement saying: “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
