Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, is defending himself from the public again, as he responded to criticism about his income tax.
“If you opened your eyes for 2 seconds, you would realize I will pay more taxes than any American in history this year,” Elon tweeted in response to Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Senator who commented at Musk’s Time Magazine “Person of the Year” award, by calling him out on his taxes. He also added: “Don’t spend it all at once … Oh wait, you did already.”
Warren’s tweet was: “Let’s change the rigged tax code so The Person of the Year will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else,” but Elon tweeted back at her with a link from a Fox News column calling Warren a “fraud,” and wrote: “You remind me of when I was a kid and my friend’s angry Mom would just randomly yell at everyone for no reason. Please don’t call the manager on me, Senator Karen.”
The former Democratic presidential candidate, Warren, was an advocate of the wealth tax. The wealth tax would impose a tax on wealthy Americans as well as their financial assets. But the Congress has not moved forward on passing this law.
Warren’s critics come from a 2018 investigation that revealed that Musk did not pay anything in federal income taxes that year.
With a net worth of $251 billion, Musk is the wealthiest person in the world right now and for 2021, he will have to pay at least $7.6 billion in taxes.
