President Donald Trump could be facing a second impeachment if he does not resign according to recent reports and demands from notable figures such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
A recent report suggests that at least 200 members of Congress support the calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump if he does not meet Nancy Pelosi’s demand to resign and remove himself from office.
According to a report on CNET, the House Democrats are in the midst of preparing new impeachment articles against Trump, citing a “incitement of insurrection” and plan to enact it on Monday, January 11 – just nine days before Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated as the incoming president.
This impeachment against Trump is connected directly to the incident that occured at the Capitol on January 6. The president suggested, on Twitter before he was banned from the platform this week, that people invading or protesting at the Capitol “Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an official statement on Speaker.gov:
It is the hope of Members that the President will immediately resign. But if he does not, I have instructed the Rules Committee to be prepared to move forward with Congressman Jamie Raskin’s 25th Amendment legislation and a motion for impeachment. Accordingly, the House will preserve every option – including the 25th Amendment, a motion to impeach or a privileged resolution for impeachment.
“With great respect, our deliberations will continue.
NBC News compiled a list of about 200 lawmakers who support the second impeachment of President Donald Trump.
The list, as of now, consists of one Republican and the rest are Democrats. The sole Republican, who supports impeaching Trump, is Rep. Adam Kinzinger from Illinois.
If Trump is impeached again, he would become the first president in United States history to be impeached twice.
