(Crankers) The man charged with killing a Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic detail last spring returned to court Monday, where his attorney signaled plans to pursue an insanity defense.
Rodney Hinton is accused of intentionally hitting retired Deputy Larry Henderson with a vehicle while Henderson was directing traffic outside the University of Cincinnati’s graduation ceremony in May.
The incident happened just one day after Hinton had watched body camera footage showing Cincinnati Police fatally shooting his son, Ryan.
Hinton’s attorney has also asked the court to restrict the release of certain body camera videos tied to the case, arguing that the footage could harm his client’s chance at a fair trial. Some of the videos the defense sought to withhold include efforts to save Henderson’s life after he was struck.
The judge rejected the request, clearing the way for the material to be released.
Hinton’s trial is scheduled to begin in April.
