Majority Whip and Rep. James Clyburn has now stated on CNN’s “New Day” that claims of President Donald Trump trying to change the results of the election in his favor are an attempt to overthrow the government and an attempted coup. This was during a conversation with host John Berman who mentioned GOP officials trying to change the results of the 2020 election in more than one state.
Clyburn is saying this about Trump trying to take out Biden as the winner.
Specifically, Clyburn said the following, as can be seen in the video below, “this is an attempt to overthrow our government. You may not call it a coup, but this is an attempted coup. Now some people said he’s trying to steal the election; he’s not trying to steal the election. That denotes some kind of unknown activity, when you’re stealing. No, that’s not what he’s doing. He is in your face, trying to overthrow the will of the people.”
There are several lawsuits pending and several others that have been a loss for Trump’s legal team or others pursuing legal actions in hopes to reverse the election to favor the president’s hopes of reelection.
Later in the interview, Clyburn says that he once suggested Trump would not exit his position at the White house with ease. This took place during a conversation with CNN back in August.
Clyburn said at that time, “I don’t think he plans to leave the White House. He doesn’t plan to have fair and unfettered elections. I believe that he plans to install himself in some kind of emergency way to continue to hold on to office.”
