CNBC News reported that the U.S. oil benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude Futures, rose 11.5 percent to $106.78 a barrel at the day’s highs. During afternoon trading, the contract slipped off that level, ending the session at $103.41, up 8.03 percent, per report.
Brent crude, the international benchmark, reached a high of $107.57 a barrel, the highest level since July 2014. The contract concluded the day at $104.97 per barrel, up 7.15 percent, according to the report.
Following a federal court order that barred the administration from utilizing its high “social cost of carbon” estimate, the Biden administration stated last week that new oil and gas drilling on federal land, as well as other energy-related initiatives, will be postponed indefinitely.
President Joe Biden brought the climate cost estimate up to around $51 per ton of carbon-dioxide emissions on his first day in office, after President Donald Trump had cut it to $7 or less per ton, according to the research.
