Migrants coming to America and getting busted with a DUI are in for a treat after 59 Democrats teamed up with Republicans in a vote that could change their lives forever. House Republicans and only 59 of the House Democrats joined forces in a vote to deport migrants who get a DUI. The vote passed 274 – 150, and it was 150 Democrats who refused to support the vote.
Many believe this is a measure to protect people from drunk drivers, suggesting that if migrants can’t adhere to American laws, particularly ones that are designed to keep people safe, then they should go break the law in their own country. But of course, 150 Democrats did not feel the same way, opting to vote against the bill that would deport drunk driving migrants breaking the law in America.
Fox News Digital quoted Rep. Barry Moore, a Republican representing Alabama, who said: “In the United States, someone dies in a crash with an impaired driver every 45 minutes. I lost two of my young newlywed constituents to an illegal immigrant driving under the influence of alcohol.” Rep. Moore is who introduced the bill in the first place. However, people may have expected more support from across the aisle, but clearly didn’t get it.
Republicans got enough help, but it’s alarming how many Democrats feel as though that’s not a deportable crime. Fox News Digital’s trending news report focused attention on a man from El Salvador who ran into a lot of legal trouble because of his actions. His name is Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas. He was involved in a crashed that killed a mom and her son. Police said alcohol was part of the incident. He’s from El Salvador and he’s an illegal immigrant. Under Rep. Moore’s bill, he would be deported.
