The comment about Somalia being "essentially not even a country" is the part that bothers me most. Whatever one thinks of Ilhan Omar's politics, describing an entire nation that way dismisses millions of people and decades of history. I'm not sure what the point of that framing is beyond insult. In Wyoming we don't have much Somali population, but I'd rather understand a place than write it off with a crude phrase.

Aside from the insult, the claim that Somalia is "essentially not even a country" doesn't hold up. Somalia has a federal government, seats at the UN and African Union, and a population in the millions. Reducing a whole nation to a slur to attack a political figure says more about the speaker than about Somalia. I'd rather discuss the actual policy disagreements than trade insults about someone's birthplace.
