(Crankers) Fox News host Will Cain played a compilation video of Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett and some of the viral moments that helped make her famous, although not for the best reasons.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett has been a subject of media attention recently. In a CNN interview, she responded to former President Donald Trump’s comments labeling her as “low IQ” and questioning her as the future of the Democratic Party. Crockett stated, “I don’t know that I’m the future of the Democratic Party, but I do know that in this moment, we need people that are unafraid and willing to go after this administration for the good of the entirety of the country.”
Crockett also sparked controversy by referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a speech at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles. She further described him as a “hot a– mess,” criticizing his policies, particularly his approach to immigration. Governor Abbott has used a wheelchair since a 1984 accident left him paralyzed from the waist down.
The remark drew swift backlash from Republican lawmakers and disability rights advocates, who viewed it as mocking Abbott’s disability. Representative Randy Weber (R-Galveston) filed a censure resolution against Crockett, labeling her comments as “discriminatory in nature” and “unbecoming of a Member of Congress.”
In response, Crockett denied that her comment was related to Abbott’s disability. She stated that her reference was aimed at his policies, particularly the transportation of migrants to cities led by Black mayors, which she described as deliberate attempts to stoke tension and fear. Crockett emphasized that her “Hot Wheels” remark was a critique of these actions, not a reference to Abbott’s physical condition.
Despite her clarification, the incident ignited a broader debate about political rhetoric and respect for individuals with disabilities. Some commentators, including hosts of “The View,” criticized Crockett’s choice of words, asserting that mocking someone’s disability is unacceptable, regardless of political disagreements.
The controversy underscores the sensitivities surrounding language in political discourse and the importance of considering the impact of words on various communities.
