What in the world is that chick doing? Kyla Galer, a young reporter for NBC-2, made the nation laugh amid the horrid times. As Hurricane Ian was rummaging through the area, this Florida reporter put a condom on a mike to keep it safe from rain and wind. The post went viral, and many folks wondered whether that thing was a real condom or something else. Yeah, that’s exactly what it is, a condom!

Galer commented on the event: “A lot of people are asking what is on my microphone. It is what you think it is,” Galer wrote her Instagram page. “It’s a condom. It helps protect the gear. You can’t get these mics wet. There’s a lot of wind and a lot of rain, so we gotta do what we gotta do and that is put a condom on the microphone.”
ABC7 news anchor Jeff Butera supported his colleague by saying: “Yes, it’s a condom. Nothing better to waterproof a microphone. My Waterman Broadcasting colleague @kylagaler has been fielding lots of questions, haha. Moment of levity in this nasty storm…”
When Yahoo Life asked Butera about the public response to the hilarious event, he stated that while it was undoubtedly a humorous moment for viewers in Fort Myers, the storm’s destruction should be of the utmost importance, said the report.
“We’ve never seen storm surge of this magnitude,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said during a recent press conference “The amount of water that’s been rising, and will likely continue to rise today even as the storm is passing, is basically a 500-year flooding event.”
No matter how horrific the situation might be, the witty reporter made everyone’s day with the whole microphone and condom thing. Something to laugh at while the Floridians are battling the destruction.
