Caitlin Clark goes woke on white privilege while winning TIME award

(Crankers) Caitlin Clark won TIME’s 2024 Athlete of the Year award and instantly went woke on white privilege, causing outrage among sports fans who were trying to give the really bad WNBA a shot. The WNBA is probably one of the most boring basketball leagues to watch, with many of the athletes being average, at best.

And when there’s men’s basketball or college games to watch, then there’s never a reason to watch the WNBA at all. Afterall, their ratings and audience numbers have been awful for years. Then comes college phenom Caitlin Clark who’s actually a really good basketball player and she ignites the WNBA with some interest. She was a legend in college, and now people are interested to see how she’ll perform as a rookie in the WNBA.

Let’s just say this – Caitlin Clark made the WNBA relevant for a moment, when it never was before, and it was probably on its way out of existence – where it belongs anyway. And now the WNBA can crawl back into irrelevance now that Caitlin Clark has gone woke on white privilege. She’s going to lose most of the fans she had and the WNBA will suffer because of it. And honestly, we’re all fine with that. The WNBA will always suck, even with Caitlin Clark in it.

But since she’s making excuses for who she is, she can kiss whatever fans she had good-bye. Sports fans are sick of the woke political nonsense. Just play the sport, be a good teammate, and be friendly to your fans. But never, ever go woke unless you’re prepared to make the majority of your fans roll their eyes so far back that they can see their own ass. Here’s what Caitlin Clark said, as quoted on TIME’s article about her award:

Clark is cognizant of the racial underpinnings of her stardom. “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege,” says Clark. “A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

It’s not about being black or white. It’s about being good at basketball. The WNBA has low ratings/audience because the players just aren’t that good when you compare them to the NBA and NCAA men’s teams. Most sports fans are men and they want to see the best of the best, not the best of the subpar, which is what the WNBA is on a good day.

Bringing race into this is just another reason the WNBA should sink faster than that titanic seeking submarine. Go sleep with the fishes, because no one wants to watch this league anymore. Who’s got next?

It’s disheartening to see sports and political opinions clash in a way that disrupts the pure enjoyment of the game. While everyone has the right to voice their beliefs, finding a balance that keeps the spirit of the sport alive is crucial.

But isn’t it important for public figures to stand up for what they believe in? Where do we draw the line?

Honestly, the WNBA was always kind of a snooze fest for me. Clark’s comments just added to the dumpster fire. Sports should be about the game, not politics.

Frank, your take seems to overlook the significant strides the WNBA has made in terms of competitiveness and skill level. While Caitlin Clark’s comments have sparked controversy, they’ve also brought attention to larger societal issues. Sports have long been a platform for social change.

I dunno much about all this woke stuff, but I started watching WNBA cause of Clark. The game’s pretty cool if you give it a chance. Maybe we should just enjoy the basketball?

Frank’s assertion that the WNBA’s ratings and audience numbers have been awful for years is not entirely accurate. In fact, viewership has seen a significant increase, particularly in the wake of social justice movements.

Interesting perspective in the article. It highlights the tension between sports as entertainment and as a platform for advocacy. It’s a difficult balance to strike.

So now athletes can’t have opinions? What happened to freedom of speech? Seems like the only acceptable views are the ones that don’t make anyone uncomfortable. Sounds like censorship to me.
