This is not how you’re supposed to spend Father’s Day! This man was in a little store carrying his baby when an armed man busted into the door and pointed a gun right at him. The man fought him off and luckily avoided injury to himself and the child.
WATCH as it was caught on camera:
Inside Edition reported: “This man spent Father’s Day protecting his child from a gunman! It happened at a gas station in Detroit. Police released video of the incident showing the suspect opened the door to the gas station’s convenience store, pulled out a gun and clip from his pants, inserted the clip and then pointed it at a man inside who was holding a baby. A person of interest has since been apprehended. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.”
Further reports show the baby is safe and the police have finally found a person of interest and taken them into custody.
The report also gives an account of the story from the perspective of the clerk working at the time. They said the man with a baby came running into the store and wanted to hide, as if they were running from the armed gunman.
That’s when the gunman busted into the door and pointed the gun, but the gun seems to have jammed. The father fights him off as well and the armed man heads outside while the man and baby take cover inside.
Detroit Police 2nd Precinct Commander Michael Chambers said: “It’s just upsetting. It’s difficult to watch. I mean, it’s just no regard for human life or for the life of a child.”
It’s believed that the gun might have jammed or malfunctioned, which essentially could have saved the father and baby’s lives when the suspect whipped out the pistol with the intent to shoot.
Chambers continued: “The father quickly, once he observed it, lifted his arm up and fortunately pushed the gun away. He was able to get him outside of the gas station and lock the door.”
Police are racking this one up as a felonious assault and the video is made public incase someone can identify the suspect.
KKTV reported that on “Monday afternoon, just a few blocks away, police took a person of interest into custody and then obtained a search warrant to look for the gun involved. As for a motive, police said the men had just had some sort of dispute.”
Chambers further stated that the men had an argument or some sort of dispute not far from the store where this criminal activity took place. “About a block away from this location there at Tyerman and Humble. He had accounted this individual, appears they had some type of argument unknown at this time. We still are early in the investigation and trying to work backwards… It’s definitely upsetting and disturbing watch that when you look at that video, especially on Father’s Day.”
