(Crankers) Minneapolis CEO Jonathan Weinhagen, head of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, is accused of embezzling over $200,000 from the organization. It’s no surprise that we found someone of that same name donating thousands to Tim Walz on Open Secrets.
Weinhagen allegedly spent some of that money on a Hawaii oceanfront getaway.
The 42-year-old, facing federal charges since October, is expected to plead guilty to five counts of fraud involving a fake company, a phony obituary, and funds stolen from a $30,000 Crime Stoppers donation.
Former colleagues expressed shock, saying the bizarre criminal case could be a TV movie.
Weinhagen, a married father of four, resigned suddenly in June 2024 after an internal probe uncovered a major deficit that also led to five staff layoffs.
He had earned $275,000 in 2023 and previously worked at his family’s St. Paul auto repair shop before becoming CEO at 33.
