About two months ago, Page Six released photos that initiated a significant news cycle concerning an alleged relationship between Dianna Russini, a reporter for The Athletic, and Mike Vrabel, the head coach of the New England Patriots. The revelations from these images prompted The New York Times, the parent company of The Athletic, to conduct an internal investigation.

Shortly after the photos surfaced, Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic. However, the internal investigation into her reporting practices has continued. As of now, The New York Times has not issued any public comments regarding the progress or findings of this investigation.

Recent reports from Page Six indicate that many weeks have passed since the commencement of the investigation, with no clarifications or conclusions shared publicly. Steven Ginsberg, The Athletic’s top editor, reportedly informed staff members last week that the investigation’s findings will be disclosed, but it is still expected to take “weeks” before any results can be shared.

Ginsberg stated during a routine staff meeting, “It’s going to take a few more weeks<g id="wpil-svg-outbound-1-icon-path" transform="matrix(0.046875,0,0,0.046875,0.0234375,0.02343964)">

</g>. There’s just a lot to go through, and we obviously want to take our time and be careful doing that. We will update everybody when we get to the end of that.” He also emphasized that should any corrections be necessary, they would be addressed in due course.

Context of the Investigation

Initially, Ginsberg had defended Russini’s version of events, suggesting that the photographs in question were misleading and lacked essential context. He pointed out that both Russini and Vrabel were in a larger group at the time the photos were taken. However, both individuals have been unable to substantiate their claims, and subsequent evidence has emerged that paints a more complex picture of their relationship.

The internal investigation by The New York Times aims to be comprehensive, examining not only the current allegations but also Russini’s reporting throughout her time at The Athletic. This scrutiny extends beyond the current speculations circulating in the media.

Recently, some of Russini’s past reporting has come under scrutiny, particularly in relation to its implications during Vrabel’s previous tenure with the Tennessee Titans. The overall aim of the investigation is to present a thorough and balanced view of her work and its potential impact.

Currently, the wait continues for any further announcements regarding the investigation into Dianna Russini. Until The New York Times provides new insights, the status of the inquiry remains uncertain. All eyes are on the findings, which, when revealed, could have implications for both Russini’s career and the integrity of reporting at The Athletic.

Schwarber is the second Phillies player to hit 50 home runs in a season. Ryan Howard hit 58 home runs in 2006.

The Phillies have 17 games left in September, giving the Schwarbomb plenty of time to catch up to Ryan Howard’s Phillies record.

Historic Phillies 3rd baseman Mike Schmidt still leads the Phillies in home runs all-time<g id="wpil-svg-outbound-1-icon-path" transform="matrix(0.046875,0,0,0.046875,0.0234375,0.02343964)">

Superstar defensive lineman Jalen Carter spit on Dak Prescott in the NFL season opener. Carter got ejected before he played a single snap, but the Eagles still pulled out a victory.

The NFL decided to fine Jalen Carter and considered his ejection to be just as good as a one game suspension. Carter didn’t play a single snap in the game, so he basically missed the entire game.

He’ll be fined $57,222 according to Adam Schefter, who posted the following message on X: “NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension. “After talking to the Eagles, the NFL and the NFLPA, Jalen has decided not to appeal and focus on the Chiefs game,” said Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus.”

A conversation between billionaire Mark Cuban and Tucker Carlson went viral for the wrong reasons. Cuban is a huge supporter of helping Ukraine during their conflict with Russia. Carlson asked him how much money he’s sent to help, and the answer was ZERO.

Mark Cuban has a net worth in the billions. The conversation went something like this:

CUBAN: “Half my family is Ukrainian… I think we should help.”
TUCKER: “How much money have you sent to Ukraine?”
CUBAN: “None.”
TUCKER: “If you think we need to help, why don’t you start?”

The conversation had critics saying that Cuban should practice what he preaches and send his own money to support the cause he’s so passionate about. Watch the conversation below:

Rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter was supposed to make all the headlines this week, but his wife stole the show instead. The Jacksonville Jaguars dual threat was drafted second this year and helped his team beat the Carolina Panthers 26-10.

Except, it seems like his wife put on more of a show than he did! He caught six passes for 33 yards and played six snaps on defense. No one else in the last 20 years had recorded five or more catches AND five defensive snaps in a single game. So he did something somewhat special, but it wasn’t enough for the fans to take their eyes off Leanna Lenee.

Kent Broussard, a 66-year-old freshman at LSU, went viral after performing with the LSU Tiger Marching Band on Saturday.

ESPN featured the nearly AARP-eligible student in its Random Fandom segment.

Saturday’s matchup against Louisiana Tech marked Broussard’s debut as an official member of the LSU Tiger Marching Band.

“Now, the first time he watched LSU inside Tiger Stadium, he was just nine years old,” ESPN announcers said on the broadcast. “Life took him another way — a career, raising a family. But he had a dream: of joining the Golden Band from Tigerland. And five years ago, Kent picked up the tuba, he practiced, he trained, and yes, he enrolled in LSU, auditioned — he made the band!

“Tonight, nearly six decades later…Kent Broussard, a 66-year-old freshman. Broussard making his dream come true. He took the field at half-time with the Golden Band From Tigerland. How great is that?”

WATCH:

In an interview with CBS News, Broussard — a retired accountant — said it was his wife who encouraged him to follow his dream of joining the band.

“At first I was like, ‘Do they have like a senior band?’” Cheryl Broussard said. “I mean, I wasn’t sure what he was exactly talking about. And it was the real band.”

LSU Band Director Simon Holoweiko insists that Broussard’s age did not lead to any leniency in his treatment.

“No, there are no breaks when you come here,” Holoweiko said. “And we follow that process to get the best possible group we can.”

Broussard says his journey should stand as a reminder that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

“Try it,” Broussard said. “The only thing you can do is fail. Your only failure is not trying.”

The dispute over a Philadelphia Phillies fan who confronted a father for a home run ball during a game against the Miami Marlins has continued to spark outrage.

Angry spectators, upset after the woman approached the man and demanded the ball he had given to his young son, began trying to identify her online. Their efforts fueled a rumor that the woman was Cheryl Richardson-Wagner.

She responded to the hateful comments online with a humorous post on Facebook.

“OK everyone … I’m not the crazy Philly Mom (but I sure would love to be as thin as she is and move as fast) …. And I’m a Red Sox fan,” she wrote.

A New Jersey school district was also forced to tamp down a wave of online speculation.

The Hammonton School District issued a statement clarifying that none of its employees had been terminated.

“The woman identified on social media as ‘Phillies Karen’ is not, and has never been an employee of the Hammonton Public Schools located in Hammonton, New Jersey,” the district said.

“Anyone who works for our school district, attended as a student or lives in our community would obviously have caught the ball bare-handed in the first place, avoiding this entire situation!” the district added.

The Phillies fan ultimately did walk away with the ball after approaching the family during the game against the Marlins.

The father, identified as Drew Felwell, handed it over and later explained his decision in an interview with NBC Philadelphia.

“I don’t even remember what she said, it was, you know, a lot of eyes on us by that time and the ball was already in his glove and she just wouldn’t stop and I mean, I’m literally leaning back as she’s in my face yelling and yelling and I pretty much just wanted her to go away because I had a fork in the road: either do something I was probably going to regret or be dad and show him how to deescalate the situation so that’s where I went,” he said.

The Eagles won 24-20 but the biggest story was Jalen Carter getting ejected before a single snap was played.

Carter spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, but many people don’t realize Dak spit too. In fact, Dak spit first, towards Carter’s feet, and then Carter retaliated.

Another angle of the Jalen Carter spit video can be seen below:

Dak Prescott looked Jalen Carter in the eyes, spit toward his feet, gave him a head nod, smiled and said “yeaaa”.

The Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 9-3 and the game ended with one of the most KAREN moments in sports history.

The game took place down in Florida and a Phillies dad ran over to grab a homerun ball, then gave it to his son. As with literally EVERY HOMERUN EVER HIT – everyone scrambles for the ball and if there’s a kid around, you give it to them – or you throw it back if you’re a fan of the other team.

These are just two of the normal things that people do with homerun balls as it’s really just part of the fun and excitement of being at the ballpark.

But this game involved a KAREN who went over to the man demanded the homerun ball be given to her, and she actually took it.

The dad handed her the ball and made a gesture like ‘get outta here, Karen’ and he and the kid moved on from it.

Now the Internet is wondering who she is.

But never mind the Karen, the Marlins team sent a girl to give the boy a gift after they saw what happened.

Then the Phillies stepped up even more by having the kid meet newly acquired outfielder Harrison Bader, who then signed a bat for him.

At the end of the day, the Phillies Karen got a bad reputation for stealing the ball from another Phillies fan – and a kid at that.

But the kid now has a memory of a lifetime after getting to meet Harrison Bader in person.

The Indiana Pacers’ thrilling 119-118 overtime victory over the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 5 of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, clinching a 4-1 series win, was briefly overshadowed by a confrontation between John Haliburton, father of Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, and Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Moments after Tyrese Haliburton’s game-winning layup with 1.3 seconds left in overtime, John Haliburton approached Antetokounmpo on the court, waving a towel or flag with his son’s face and shouting, “This is what we do!” and a more explicit variant, per witnesses. Antetokounmpo, frustrated by the Bucks’ collapse from a seven-point lead, called the actions disrespectful.

“I thought it was a fan,” Antetokounmpo said post-game. “Knowing it was Tyrese’s dad, it still felt off.” The two briefly faced off before Bucks guard Pat Connaughton and others separated them. A later conversation ended with Antetokounmpo giving a thumbs-up, signaling a resolution.

Tyrese Haliburton, unaware of the incident during the game, addressed it maturely. “My dad’s passion is huge, but that wasn’t right,” he said. “I’ll talk to him and Giannis to move forward. We respect Giannis.” His response was praised for its professionalism.

The game showcased the Pacers’ resilience, with Haliburton delivering a near triple-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 16 assists) and Pascal Siakam scoring 25 points. Antetokounmpo’s 30-point, 20-rebound triple-double wasn’t enough for the Bucks, who were without Damian Lillard due to an Achilles injury.

Social media reactions were split, with some fans defending John Haliburton’s enthusiasm and others supporting Antetokounmpo’s call for respect. The NBA has not announced disciplinary action, and both parties seem focused on moving forward.

The No. 4-seeded Pacers now advance to face the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers, who swept the Miami Heat, in the Eastern Conference semifinals, starting May 4 in Cleveland. The Pacers won three of four regular-season matchups against the 64-18 Cavaliers, promising a competitive series.

The Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off their Super Bowl LIX triumph, visited the White House on April 28, 2025, to celebrate their 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. President Donald Trump welcomed the team, marking their first White House visit as Super Bowl champions, a stark contrast to the canceled 2018 visit during Trump’s first term. The event, steeped in tradition but tinged with political undertones, highlighted the team’s achievement while navigating a complex backdrop of public sentiment.

The Eagles’ visit, confirmed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, followed weeks of speculation and conflicting reports. A February 9 U.S. Sun article, resurfaced on social media, falsely claimed the Eagles had rejected an invitation, sparking outrage among some Trump supporters and praise from others. The White House and team sources clarified that no invitation had been declined, and the Eagles “enthusiastically accepted” the formal invite on March 10, 2025. Team owner Jeffrey Lurie emphasized the visit as an honor, aiming to avoid politicizing the occasion.

President Trump, who attended Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans—the first sitting president to do so—hosted the team in a ceremony described as a celebration of their “great performance.” The Eagles presented Trump with a No. 47 jersey and a team helmet, symbols of unity despite past tensions. In 2018, Trump rescinded the Eagles’ invitation after many players planned to boycott the visit, citing disagreements over his stance on national anthem protests. This time, the event proceeded smoothly, though not without absences.

Notable players, including Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith, did not attend, with the White House citing “scheduling conflicts.” For example, Jalen Hurts had recently gotten married and was attending another event with his brand new wife.

Star running back Saquon Barkley, however, was a prominent presence, having golfed with Trump at his Bedminster, New Jersey, club the day prior. Barkley, who traveled to Washington on Marine One with Trump, defended his participation on X, stating, “Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand.” His engagement drew both criticism and support online, reflecting the polarized reactions to the visit.

The ceremony, attended by players like Barkley and a contingent of coaches and staff, was celebrated by some fans as a nod to tradition. The Eagles’ decision to attend, after internal discussions reported by players like Darius Slay, underscored a team vote to embrace the opportunity.

The visit, a decades-old tradition dating back to President Jimmy Carter, reaffirmed the Eagles’ place in NFL history as two-time Super Bowl champions. While the event bridged a gap from 2018, it also highlighted the ongoing intersection of sports and politics, with the Eagles’ presence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue resonating as both a celebration and a statement.

Tim Tebow, who is a former University of Florida Heisman trophy-winning quarterback and Denver Broncos starter, recently accepted the Sports Impact Award at the K-LOVE Fan Awards. Tebow gave an impassioned speech about caring for the most vulnerable while accepting the award and declaring Jesus Christ as the only MVP.

The speech began with Tebow thanking the crowd and the presenters and then cracking a couple of jokes at the presenter’s expense saying, “Thank you so much. Matthew, let’s just be honest, you’ve never thought about running a marathon. And unfortunately, those shorts you wore proved it.”

“Guys, it is such an honor to be here,” he continued. “Especially just around so many legends and inspirations. Just getting to sit with Toby Mack and Chris Tomlin and so many heroes of the faith that I get fortunate to be around.”

The speech then got directed at the crowd, as Tebow said: “Guys, I just want you to be encouraged because I know it gets hard for so many of you, but you inspire so many people and I want you to keep going because you have no idea the impact that you’re making on so many people around the world.”

“And I want you guys to know that and be encouraged. You inspire people. You know what inspire means? It means to fill someone with the urge to do something and you do that. You fill people with the urge to want to follow Jesus and don’t stop that. That’s why what you are doing matters. That’s why being here matters,” Tebow declared, per report<g id="wpil-svg-outbound-1-icon-path" transform="matrix(0.046875,0,0,0.046875,0.0234375,0.02343964)">

Tebow shared a personal story, after thanking K-Love, beginning: “When I was 15 years old I had the opportunity to meet a boy in the jungles of the Philippines who was born with his feet backwards. And because of that, his village viewed him as cursed, as insignificant, as a throwaway. But that day I knew that he wasn’t a throwaway to God and he better not be a throwaway to me.”

He then continued: “And, you know, up until then and even so many times after that in my life, I’ve been chasing — someone that’s been chasing dreams to be the best, to win championships, to win MVPs, to try to be the best. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but ultimately on that day and so many days after, God has opened my eyes to what does it mean if you actually are an MVP, if you do it, to be the most valuable player.”

“Because ultimately that day He impacted my heart. That the MVP I should be chasing is the most vulnerable people around the world,” he added.

Tebow then proclaimed: “Because ultimately, there is only one MVP. And He died on a cross on a rescue mission for humanity. And He has commanded us to go defend the weak, protect the poor, and go after those that are hurting.”

“And let me tell you something, there are a lot of people around the world that are hurting. That means that we have a big job. Let’s go get our job done. God bless you guys,” Tebow concluded.
